Commercial Mechanical Design Services

Mechanical systems play a key role in how a building performs day to day, from maintaining comfortable temperatures to supporting air quality and efficient energy use. Fusion 360 provides design support that reflects the practical needs of each space, helping to create systems that are reliable, manageable and fit for purpose.

We can assist with mechanical design across a variety of commercial and public sector settings, including education, healthcare, offices, retail, warehousing, industrial facilities and mixed-use buildings.

Heating System Design

Fusion 360 can design heating systems that are tailored to the size, layout and usage of your building. We consider heat demand, occupancy, energy efficiency and existing infrastructure to create a practical heating design that supports comfort and performance.

Our heating system design support can include:

  • Heating load calculations
  • Boiler and heat pump considerations
  • Radiator and emitter layouts
  • Underfloor heating considerations
  • Zoning and control strategies
  • Pipework routes
  • Plant room integration
  • Energy efficiency recommendations

This helps ensure your heating system is designed around the specific needs of your building.

Ventilation Design

Effective ventilation is vital for indoor air quality, occupant comfort and building compliance. Fusion 360 can design ventilation systems that provide suitable airflow across your site while supporting energy efficiency and long-term usability.

Our ventilation design services can include:

  • Fresh air supply planning
  • Extract ventilation design
  • Mechanical ventilation layouts
  • Airflow calculations
  • Ductwork routes
  • Ventilation control strategies
  • Heat recovery considerations
  • Compliance-led planning

We design ventilation systems that are practical, efficient and suited to how your building is used.

Cooling System Planning

Cooling systems need to be carefully planned to maintain comfortable internal conditions and support equipment performance where required. Fusion 360 can help design cooling strategies for a range of commercial and industrial environments.

Our cooling system planning can include:

  • Cooling load assessments
  • Air conditioning system design
  • Cooling equipment selection
  • Zoning and controls
  • Pipework and ductwork routes
  • Plant and external unit locations
  • Energy usage considerations
  • Maintenance access planning

This helps create a cooling system that is reliable, efficient and appropriate for your site.

The Corn Exchange

The Challenge: The well-known Corn Exchange Building was an integral part of exciting plans to make the New Market Square more attractive with new cafés, bars and businesses. It now hosts a new public screen, promoting interactivity and bringing footfall to the area. Once the building housing the indoor market was demolished, the rear façade of the Corn Exchange was exposed. Until this point, the back of the building was hidden from public view, and there had been little thought to the aesthetic value of previous works. How We Helped: Working closely with Jeakins Weir, the experienced team at Fusion Electrics improved ventilation and rationalised current equipment to allow tidying and screening of the rear elevation and all planned improvements to the blockwork to take...

Plant Room Layouts

Plant rooms play an important role in the performance and maintenance of mechanical systems. Fusion 360 can design plant room layouts that make effective use of space while allowing for safe access, servicing and future upgrades.

Our plant room layout design can include:

  • Equipment positioning
  • Pipework and ductwork coordination
  • Access and maintenance zones
  • Clearance requirements
  • Pump, boiler and cylinder locations
  • Controls and metering positions
  • Future expansion considerations
  • Coordination with electrical systems

This helps ensure your plant room is well organised, accessible and suitable for the systems it supports.

Energy Efficiency Considerations

Mechanical systems can have a significant impact on a building’s energy usage. Fusion 360 takes energy efficiency into account throughout the design process, helping businesses reduce waste and improve long-term performance.

Our energy efficiency considerations can include:

  • Efficient heating and cooling strategies
  • Improved controls and zoning
  • Heat recovery opportunities
  • Smart monitoring options
  • System sizing to avoid overuse
  • Integration with solar PV and battery storage
  • Replacement of outdated equipment
  • Long-term operational cost considerations

This supports a mechanical design that is not only practical but also aligned with wider energy and sustainability goals.

Building Services Coordination

Mechanical systems often need to work alongside electrical, solar, lighting, fire safety and wider building services. Fusion 360 can help coordinate mechanical design with other disciplines to reduce clashes, improve installation efficiency and support a smoother project.

Our building services coordination can include:

  • Coordination with electrical design
  • Integration with renewable energy systems
  • Plant room and containment coordination
  • Routes for pipework, ductwork and cabling
  • Space planning with other services
  • Maintenance access planning
  • Design reviews with contractors and project teams

This joined-up approach helps ensure mechanical systems are designed as part of the wider building, not in isolation.

Commercial Mechanical System Design

Fusion 360 provides commercial mechanical system design for both new and existing buildings. We take the time to understand how your site operates before recommending systems that meet your performance, comfort and compliance requirements.

Our commercial mechanical system design can support:

  • Office refurbishments
  • Schools and education buildings
  • Healthcare environments
  • Warehouses and logistics facilities
  • Retail and hospitality premises
  • Industrial facilities
  • Public sector buildings
  • Renewable energy and low-carbon upgrades

Each design is tailored to the site, helping create mechanical systems that are safe, reliable and suitable for long-term use.

Compliance-Led Mechanical Planning

Mechanical design must consider safety, performance and relevant building requirements from the beginning. Fusion 360 takes a compliance-led approach to mechanical planning, helping reduce risk and support a more efficient installation process.

We can support with:

  • Building regulation considerations
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Energy performance considerations
  • Safe access and maintenance planning
  • Plant room requirements
  • System controls and usability
  • Coordination with wider project specifications

By considering compliance early, we help create mechanical designs that are practical, achievable and ready for the next stage of the project.
