Fusion played a key role in the Brandon Refurbishment project at Leicester General Hospital, an initiative to modernise and upgrade facilities, ensuring the trust is prepared for future healthcare needs. The first phase of the project, completed in November 2024, involved substantial renovation of an older building and the integration of new services to support a modern, functional healthcare environment.

Fusion delivered essential electrical installations to ensure the facility was fully equipped and ready for its new purpose.

The Challenge:

The building was old and in need of a full renovation. A key element of the project was incorporating new services, particularly above-ceiling installations, while ensuring coordination with other trades for the heating and ventilation systems.

Additionally, the second floor required temporary lighting and power to allow the trust to explore potential future uses for the area. This phase needed to be completed swiftly and efficiently to ensure that the hospital would be ready in December to accept patients.

Fusion is currently working on the second phase of the project, focusing on the pharmacy, which is due to be completed in February 2025.

How We Helped:

Fusion was responsible for delivering several critical electrical installations during the refurbishment:

  • Replacing outdated internal lighting systems with modern solutions to improve functionality and energy efficiency.
  • Working on external lighting to ensure the exterior of the building was well-lit for safety and security.
  • Installing emergency lighting to meet healthcare compliance and provide safety in the event of power failure.
  • Providing the infrastructure needed for the building’s security systems, including alarms and surveillance.
  • Installing the Mains Switchgear Distribution and main distribution panel to ensure reliable and safe power across the hospital.
  • Connecting submains to local distribution boards to support power across the building, including to essential systems like HVAC.
  • Ensuring reliable power to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment in the hospital.

The Outcome:

The first phase of the Brandon Refurbishment project was completed on time, with the facility ready to go live in December 2024, in preparation for patient admissions. The trust now has an up-to-date, fully operational facility that will serve as a part of the East Midlands Care Centre.

The successful delivery of this phase has not only provided the trust with a modern and efficient space, but has also laid the groundwork for future development with the second phase, focused on the pharmacy, set for completion in February 2025.

Fusion is proud to have been part of Leicester General Hospital’s refurbishment project, ensuring the facility meets both its immediate needs and future possibilities for improved patient care and hospital operations.
