Full electrical installation for Skills and Innovation Centre for Wilten Construction

Mid Suffolk District Council’s £18m Skills and Innovation Centre is a new, three-storey state-of-the-art facility at Gateway 14; a major business, innovation and logistics park ideally located on the A14 near Stowmarket.

Managed by Wilten Construction, the new 35,000 sq ft building is designed to be a hub for high-growth start-ups, equipped with offices, collaboration and innovation spaces, training and meeting rooms and a cafe.

The new Skills and Innovation Centre aims to provide business support services, becoming a hub for entrepreneurship and collaboration, whilst also helping to address a local skills gap and capture opportunities for growing areas like green economy and AI technology.

Fusion 360 were asked to provide complete electrical design and installation for the project, including lighting, fire and security monitoring and a full audio-visual package – helping the building achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation.

The challenge:

With the new centre being built for a variety of purposes, it required a comprehensive installation which would suit its many different uses.

Wilten Construction commissioned Fusion 360 to provide extensive electrical design and installation for the project, whilst ensuring it met both sustainability design goals and programme timelines.

The Fusion 360 team delivered comprehensive electrical design and installation for the Skills and Innovation Centre

Our experienced team delivered the full design and installation of lighting solutions across the site, including internal and external lighting, car park illumination and comprehensive emergency lighting throughout the building.

As part of the internal installation, we provided a smart wireless handle solution for access control to all meeting rooms, which is fully compliant with UK BSEN fire safety regulations.

We also delivered security systems, including CCTV, fire alarms and secure data network and cabling, plus lightning protection and EV charging points, with a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply).

Following the initial electrical design and installation, we were asked to provide a full audio and visual package which included TVs, interactive smart whiteboards, digital display signs, soundbars and boardroom audio equipment.

The outcome:

Following Fusion 360’s complete electrical design and installation, the Skills and Innovation Centre is now fully equipped to support its role as a modern hub for business, collaboration and innovation.

With advanced lighting, security, data infrastructure and audio-visual systems seamlessly integrated throughout, the building offers a flexible, future-ready environment so the centre is ready to support local economic growth.

The inclusion of EV charging and a UPS ensures the facility follows sustainable practices, helping them achieve their BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation.
