Leicester College Aeronautical Block

Leicester College has recently strengthened its commitment to technical and vocational excellence with the development of a cutting-edge Aeronautical Building. In 2025, Fusion was appointed to work in partnership with the main contractor, Wilten Construction, to deliver this flagship facility. Situated at the college’s Abbey Park Campus, the new building is purpose-designed to support advanced aeronautical engineering training, featuring industry-standard workshops, simulation labs, and specialist classrooms. The project also includes enhanced breakout spaces and student support areas, reflecting the college’s focus on creating an inspiring and supportive learning environment. 

The Challenge: 

Delivering such a highly specialised building required the seamless integration of multiple systems, including lighting and controls, a three-phase distribution board installation, as well as CCTV and a door access system. The challenge was not only the scale of the works but also the precision needed to ensure each element functioned flawlessly within a technical, safety-critical environment. Coordinating installations across workshops, simulation labs, and teaching spaces demanded meticulous planning, as even small oversights could impact both functionality and safety. 

How We Helped: 

Fusion worked with Wilten Construction and the college’s project team from the outset, adopting a collaborative approach to design, planning, and installation. By carefully sequencing works and drawing on our expertise across diverse systems, we ensured each aspect, from power distribution to lighting and cabling, was fully coordinated. Regular reviews and testing at each stage allowed us to maintain high standards while meeting the project’s ambitious deadlines. 

The Outcome: 

Our team successfully delivered a complete electrical infrastructure tailored to the college’s needs. Energy-efficient internal and external LED lighting was installed to create bright, inspiring spaces, complemented by emergency lighting and fire alarm systems to ensure safety throughout the building. A secure data network and CCTV system were integrated to support both learning and safeguarding, while a rooftop solar energy system reduced long-term operational costs and carbon impact. Together, these installations provided a robust, future-proof solution that supports the college’s vision for advanced technical education.
