Loughborough Hospital is dedicated to providing around-the-clock care for patients every single day of the year. As part of our ongoing work with the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Fusion Electrics designed and installed a 375-panel PV solar system across three roofs. This is a big step forward for a more sustainable future, helping to cut down carbon emissions and supporting the NHS in its journey towards achieving Net Zero.

The Challenge

Working in a live hospital brought unique challenges for Fusion. With space at a premium and patient care in continuous progress, every stage had to be carefully planned. To keep disruption to a minimum, Fusion ensured that all materials were in position before staff and visitors arrived at the hospital each day.

As the new system was installed in risers, the team had to work in tight spaces and follow strict safety measures. Skilled planning and coordination ensured that the project ran smoothly with minimum disruption to hospital operations.

How We Helped

Fusion took on the challenge of designing and installing a custom solar PV system across three roofs at Loughborough Hospital, making the most of the available space to harness clean, renewable energy. The setup features 375 high-efficiency 590W solar panels, which together provide a total capacity of 221.3 kWp.

The system includes three SolarEdge SE90K inverters, one SE25K inverter and SolarEdge monitoring software. The project began in February 2025 and successfully completed in March 2025. Fusion’s cutting-edge setup boosts energy production and allows for real-time monitoring.

Working in close collaboration with the hospital ensured that the installation ran smoothly. The new renewable energy solution contributes to lower carbon emissions and reduces the hospital’s reliance on traditional energy sources.

The Outcome

The solar panel installation at Loughborough Hospital, funded by a £180,000 NHS England sustainability grant, is already making a significant impact. The system is expected to cut electricity costs by 11%, saving around £50,000 per year. These significant savings will prevent approximately 56 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, which will help the NHS reduce its environmental footprint and move closer to its Net Zero goals while delivering long-term financial savings.
