Oaklands School

Fusion were contracted for a full electrical and mechanical installation of the extension to Oaklands School, Leicester, a primary school for pupils with special educational needs. Oaklands School currently has 103 pupils, and this extension will allow them to take this number to 127.

The Challenge:

Oaklands required more learning space as well as improved accessibility features to allow them to take on more students, with full electrical and mechanical installation to the entire new extension.

With the building being a brand-new extension to the existing school, Fusion were able to carry out the work required with minimal disruption to the school’s current daily routine which is so important when working within educational environments.

How We Helped:

This full installation at Oaklands School entailed:

• A crucial part of the delivery of this project was to ensure the electrical work contributed to a productive and modern teaching environment, with the teachers at Oaklands involved in the design of some of the new classrooms’ electrics.Being a school, safety and security is vital, and an element of our installation was the implementation of a refuge alarm system for wheelchair users to call for assistance in getting downstairs in the case of a fire or evacuation, as lifts are automatically out of action in these scenarios.Electrics were also installed for hoists within the toilets and shower blocks to provide better facilities and accessibility.
  

  The Outcome:

  Oaklands’ new extension has been a long-awaited addition to the school, and we at Fusion were proud to play a part in giving the staff and children who attend Oaklands the reassurance that their new facilities are providing a safe, secure and compliant environment where pupils can learn and thrive.
